2002 Warren Centre Innovation Lecture

Dr Jim Fox, Managing Director of Vision Systems, will give the prestigious 2002 Warren Centre Innovation Lecture. For the first time the lecture will be held in both Melbourne and Sydney.

Dr Fox will speak on ‘Why is it so difficult to develop great ideas and inventions in Australia: Australians can make it’.

Vision Systems has certainly made it. Under Dr Fox’s leadership, the company has annual sales of A$150 million and exports of A$120 million. More than 85 per cent of revenues are now earned in markets outside Australia and the company continues to grow at more than 30 per cent annually.

Vision Systems is a publicly listed company which incorporates the Invetech Group which was founded by Dr Fox in 1987. It manufactures and exports high value medical instruments, video surveillance products and high sensitivity smoke detection products and is a leading supplier of contract R&D and technology commercialisation services to the manufacturing industry.

Dr Fox has particular experience in establishing and building international, technology based businesses. His involvement ranges from raising finance through to negotiating marketing agreements and acquisitions.

Dr Fox is also a non-executive Director of Futuris Corporation Limited and Technology Partnership (UK) Ltd. Futuris is a $3 billion Australian manufacturer of automotive air conditioning and Technology Partnership operates from the UK and provides technology-based services to customers in Europe, Japan and the USA. Its products are based on drug discovery, automation, scientific instruments and ink jet printer technology.

Dr Fox is also a member of the Victorian State Government’s Council for Knowledge, Innovation, Science and Engineering.

AusIndustry, Baldwin Shelston Waters and Macquarie Bank are sponsors of this prestigious event.
