Help Create Wealth for the Nation

When you’re doing a great job, of course you set your sights even higher.

That’s how we have always worked at The Warren Centre. Please look at our 2003 Annual Report by following this link.

The Centre provides support to turn an idea, an outline description and the enthusiasm of an initiator into an implementable project or activity that delivers value to the Centre’s supporters and to the nation.

The Centre must execute effectively in three fundamental areas if it is to grow and to continue to perform to a high standard:

1) generate strong project ideas that can deliver value to the nation more often

2) deliver the support required to move those ideas into projects that are strongly supported and funded by industry and government

3) deliver the support required by project teams to deliver a project that achieves its goals and provides value to the nation.

The recent reorganisation around fields of endeavour is already delivering in the first area.

To deliver the second and third areas, there are at least two alternatives:

One is to increase the size of the Centre’s foundation investment and hire appropriate additional staff. The other alternative is to recruit volunteers to assist with support-delivery.

The need is great; the Centre is actively pursuing both alternatives. Therefore, we need to hear from any person or organisation who would like to help the Centre by volunteering their time to work with us. The Centre does not need a full-time commitment from any individual, but does need a regular commitment to a portion of time.

Each Warren Centre project and activity typically includes a period of intense support to turn an outline description and the enthusiasm of the initiator into an implementable project or activity.

Only a little altruism is required to feel appropriately rewarded by helping The Warren Centre. Significant personal benefit can be extracted from the work, not just through the knowledge acquired but also through the people you meet.

In its 21 years, the Centre has had a major impact in the nation through 16 major projects and a multitude of lesser activities. Our recent publication, Pushing the Engineering Envelope, illustrates these accomplishments.

If this sparks your interest, please contact Robert Mitchell at The Warren Centre on 02 9351 4048 or e-mail r.mitchell@eng.usyd.edu.au

Project management skills are important. At this time we are particularly looking for:

  • A volunteer to manage all aspects of our quarterly external communication vehicle (this newsletter).

  • A volunteer to manage implementation of the Successful Innovation courses, which were piloted in 2003 and which are aimed at the post graduate research community.
