Sustainable Transport in Sustainable Cities International Forum

The world’s leading researchers and field specialists will converge at The University of Sydney from Wednesday 21 to Saturday 24 July for the second biennial AC21 International Forum 2004.

The Warren Centre is hosting the Sustainable Transport in Sustainable Cities satellite forum on 22 July. This forum provides a platform to hear and discuss a range of issues relating to providing Access in large metropolitan areas. It will include speakers with the unique perspectives from large cities in Japan and China and a host of Australian practitioners speaking on

ü       finance and the partnership between private and government service providers

ü       institutional structure and strategic planning

ü       land use and transport planning

ü       new transport technologies.

Importantly, the forum provides a public introduction to the growing list of outcomes being implemented from The Warren Centre’s Sustainable Transport in Sustainable Cities project.

Professor Gavin Brown, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of The University of Sydney, reflects on the academic program planned for the four-day event.

“Hosted by the colleges, research centres and faculties of The University of Sydney, the AC21 International Forum 2004 is an event of national and international significance, offering delegates the chance to engage in stimulating and productive debate on some of the world’s most topical issues.

At this year’s forum, speakers from as far afield as Nagoya University, Japan, Brunel University, England and North Carolina State University, USA, will join Australia’s most prominent academics, government regulators and business identities to share perspectives about the roles and responsibilities of universities, cities and society in:

The Forum’s program consists of an open and public forum addressing the Forum’s overall theme, Universities, Cities and Society in the 21st Century, as well as six satellite forums addressing the aforementioned issues.

Many of these debates will offer a rare interdisciplinary approach, involving academics from around the world as well as industry professionals and the public.

Through collaboration and balanced discussion, the AC21 International Forum 2004 will make a pertinent and genuinely useful contribution to Australian and international research and development by developing a range of international protocols and achievable goals.

The University of Sydney is proud to be hosting this prestigious event on behalf of AC21, a network of 26 universities and non-academic organisations from around the world. AC21 was formed by Nagoya University in 2002 and aims to foster global collaboration on issues of international significance by promoting research through collaboration and enriching education through cooperation.

On behalf of The University of Sydney, I encourage you to participate in the AC21 International Forum 2004.”
