Sustainable Transport in Sustainable Cities

Module 5 – Land Use (space) Development

This module is focussed on shaping policies to reduce environmental stress. Hence we must seek to make cities less unsustainable which means making them more efficient. It is concerned with the shape of our cities and how they function. It will look at what ‘drives’ transport and how transport choices shape the city. Which intervention will lead most effectively to a more sustainable city? This project will look at lessons from history, and review the system of land use development. It will look at how the way in which the use of land is regulated and priced affects people’s propensity to travel. It will review zoning controls and examine proposals for contribution to sustainability and lifestyle. It will seek ways to use land use regulation and pricing to influence travel demand and choice.
